Game weighting
Game weighting is the share of each bet that counts towards a bonus wagering requirement, which differs by game and is often less than 100%.
Also called game contribution, wagering contribution, contribution percentage
Casinos do not count all games equally towards a wagering requirement. The bonus terms list a weighting, also called contribution, for each type of game. Slots often count 100%. Games with a low house edge, such as blackjack, roulette or dice, often count much less, and some games count 0%. The exact figures differ from casino to casino.
Example. Your requirement is 3,500. On slots at 100%, you stake 3,500 to clear it. On a table game weighted 10%, each 1 you bet counts as 0.10, so you must stake 3,500 ÷ 10% = 35,000. On a game weighted 0% you never clear it.
What people get wrong. People work out the cost of a bonus using their favourite low-edge game, then find it only counts a fraction. A 0.5% edge looks cheap. But 35,000 × 0.5% is an expected loss of 175, more than the 3,500 × 4% = 140 on a slot. Weighting is how casinos cancel out the advantage of low-edge games.
Read the full list in the bonus terms before you play, including excluded games. Playing an excluded game with a bonus can break the terms. The wagering calculator has a contribution field for this.
