Maximum bet rule

A maximum bet rule is a bonus term that caps how much you may stake on a single bet or spin while a bonus is active.

Also called max bet rule, max bet, maximum stake with bonus

While a bonus is active, most casinos limit the size of each bet. The cap is in the bonus terms, as a fixed amount or as a share of the bonus. It is there to stop players clearing a wagering requirement with a few very large bets.

Example. The terms set a maximum bet of 5 per spin with a bonus. Halfway through wagering you place one spin of 8. Nothing happens on screen. Days later you finish wagering and ask to withdraw 600. The casino reviews your bets, finds the spin of 8, and cancels the bonus and the winnings under its terms.

What people get wrong. Many players assume the game will block a bet that is too big. Often it does not. Some casinos enforce the cap in the software, but others only check your bet history when you withdraw. One bet over the limit can be enough to lose everything won with the bonus.

Warning

If you cannot find the maximum bet in the terms, ask support in writing before you play with a bonus.

  • Wagering requirement

A wagering requirement is the total amount you must bet, usually a multiple of the bonus, before bonus money and its winnings can be withdrawn.

  • Game weighting

Game weighting is the share of each bet that counts towards a bonus wagering requirement, which differs by game and is often less than 100%.

  • Bonus abuse

Bonus abuse is a casino's term for claiming or playing bonuses in ways its rules forbid, such as opening more than one account.

  • Maximum cashout

A maximum cashout is a cap on how much you can withdraw from winnings made with a bonus, however much you actually win.
